Why 821

Brands that design with care need makers who build with the same care, at the right price.

We help brands bring their products to life, from the first material to the finished piece, always with the intention to build stronger supply chains, better products, and lasting partnerships.

An Italian foundation in craft and materials and a Scandinavian mindset built on transparency, collaboration and quality. We build long-term supply chain solutions that protect margins, strengthen products and help brands grow with confidence in a changing market.

What makes the approach different: both sides of the table, tannery and brand, and a direct-to-factory model that removes the agent.

Who 821 works with: small and medium brands wanting to remove the traditional agent, and retailers with private label programmes.

Niccolo Duranti

Founder & CEO

I believe a great product is decided long before it reaches the store. It starts with the right leather, the right mill and the right factory, and with people who care enough to get every detail right.

I entered this industry at 18 and found my foundation in a tannery in Florence, developing leathers for houses like Dior, Gucci, Prada and Louis Vuitton. That is where I learned that quality begins with the material. The lesson has stayed with me through every chapter since. I led material innovation at Dolce & Gabbana, ran materials and quality for Michael Kors across Asia, and built global teams that turned creative vision into products made at scale.

Over 25 years I have lived and worked in Italy, China, Southeast Asia and New York. Along the way I built real relationships with the people who actually make the product. Today I bring that network to 821 Sourcing Solutions in Copenhagen and New York. When you work with me, you work directly with the factory, with no middleman, and with someone at your side who knows every step of the journey.

For me, sourcing is more than logistics. It is where craft, responsibility and good business meet. That belief led me to study corporate sustainability at NYU, and it is why I share what I know with the next generation as a visiting professor at Polimoda in Florence.

Henriette Bjørnbak

Design & Product Development

My background is in ready-to-wear design and product development across menswear and womenswear, with specialist expertise in denim.

I have a strong background working with Scandinavian brands, and extensive experience collaborating with international brands, manufacturers and suppliers. Having spent over a decade in Italy, I combine Scandinavian design sensibility with a strong understanding of Italian product culture, materials, craftsmanship and manufacturing.

Throughout my career, I have worked across the entire development process—from concept, collection structure, colour and material direction to design, fittings, supplier dialogue and final product. This gives me a comprehensive overview and enables me to connect creative ideas with technical feasibility, quality, price and market relevance.

At 821 Sourcing, I shape client-specific creative direction and guide the development of showroom samples and collections tailored to Scandinavian and wider European brands, working closely with our production partners.
